Business in Hackney

Invest in Hackney have been working in the borough for over 11 years now, and in that time we have gained a great deal of knowledge of the business that are operate in the borough.

Working with Team Hackney, the Local Strategic Partnership, Invest in Hackney have made a detailed study of these businesses, and identified some industry sectors that we believe can thrive in the borough, and in doing so will create jobs that the people of Hackney can access, so achieving the Mayor’s aim of reducing the high levels of worklessness seen in Hackney.

The first five sectors we have identified are retail, hospitality, high value manufacturing, servicing the City and the creative industries. You can find out more about each of these sectors by clicking on the tabs above.

This is most certainly not an exhaustive list of the sectors that are successful in Hackney. For instance Hackney has a very large, and still growing Social Enterprise and Community-led business sector. Amnesty International have their head quarters in Shoreditch. CANMezzanine, one of the biggest providers of managed workspace to Social Enterprises and Charities has recently opened a 480 desk space Business Centre near to Old Street, and the Ethical Property Company has been providing office space for third sector organisations in Hackney for several years at Development House and the Grayston Centre.
The Hoxton Apprentice, run by Training for Life, and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Foundation are social enterprises providing training in the hospitality sector for disadvantaged young people from all over London that started here in Hackney.
