The Y-Stand
A collaboration between a product and industrial design practice and an urban design and architectural firm, both based in Hackney, has produced the award winning Y-Stand, a whole new concept in cycle security.
Designed from first principles, the Y-stand offers multiple locking opportunities for all sizes and styles of bicycles. Its stylish form allows users to lock both the wheels and the frame, so making the bike extra secure.
And as an added bonus, when the Y-stand is not occupied by a bike, it will instead offer pedestrians a perch where they can sit on the street and rest.
The Y-stand was a finalist in the New York Cityrack design competition.
The Y-stand is now in production in the UK. It has already received widespread attention from designers, local authorities, educational institutions and developers, and the first production orders are currently being processed.
The product is highly innovative, and here in Hackney, one of the most cycle friendly boroughs in London, it could provide a safe and stylish solution for cyclists.
