The opportunity
The extension of the East London Line up to Dalston Junction, which will open next year, and the scheduled upgrades to the North London Line, will bring more people into Dalston and Hackney Central, increasing opportunities for retailers in these areas.
Hackney Council is currently preparing Masterplans for both of these areas. A Masterplan is a tool to manage development pressure or to help regeneration. The Council has identified Dalston Town Centre and Hackney Central as areas of regeneration, and it is considered that there is a wide range of opportunities to improve and manage development in these town centres.
South Shoreditch is considered an area ripe for retail development. The South Shoreditch Area Action Plan recommends retail use at the ground floor level within the Shoreditch Triangle area.
Looking further ahead, the legacy of the 2012 games for Hackney will be a new community of residential, commercial and retail space within the Olympic Park, at the east of the borough, bringing further opportunities to retail businesses in Hackney.
